Q&A

WHAT IS IT EXACTLY?

Bottle Episodes is a multiplayer, text-and-image-based multiplayer game. Each episode is a branching, character-driven story you play with a group. The engine tracks your choices, updates the world in real time, and keeps everything coherent — no game master required.

IS IT LIKE D&D? OR LIKE A VISUAL NOVEL?

It’s somewhere between a tabletop RPG and a story-based game. Like a tabletop RPG, your decisions shape the world and relationships. Like a visual novel, the interface is simple and immersive: no dice and no spreadsheets.

IS IT ALL TEXT?

The current version uses narrative text and static visuals (like character art or location images). That said, the engine is platform agnostic and can scale to support different types of gameplay.

DO I NEED A GAME MASTER?

No. One person hosts the session, but the engine handles logic, rules, and story flow for the whole group. It remembers what happened, tracks where everyone is, and adjusts the story accordingly.

IS IT AI?

Nope.

AI is capable of generating creative content, but it struggles to remember and enforce rules across a shared environment. That’s where the pure-code engine comes in.

When creator tools open up, users will have the freedom to decide how they build theirs. Whether they write everything themselves or supplement with AI, the engine will keep the world logic stable and consistent.

CAN I MAKE MY OWN EPISODE?

Not yet — but the first episode will be customizable. Disappear into stock characters or fill out my madlib-style template. Without even having to look at code, you’ll have a detailed multiplayer story game — specific to you and your friends.
