Q&A
WHAT IS IT EXACTLY?
Bottle Episodes is a multiplayer, text-and-image-based RPG for your phone. Each episode is a branching, character-driven story you play with a group. The engine tracks your choices, updates the world in real time, and keeps everything coherent—no game master required.
IS IT LIKE D&D? OR LIKE A VISUAL NOVEL?
It’s somewhere between a tabletop RPG and a story-based game. Like a tabletop RPG, your decisions shape the world and relationships. Like a visual novel, the interface is simple and immersive: text and image—no dice and no spreadsheets.
The game uses narrative text and static visuals (like character art or location images). There’s no animation or 3D gameplay—just immersive, choice-driven storytelling.
IS IT ALL TEXT?
DO I NEED A GAME MASTER?
No. One person hosts the session, but the engine handles logic, rules, and story flow for the whole group. It remembers what happened, tracks where everyone is, and adjusts the story accordingly.
IS IT AI?
Nope.
AI is great at generating creative content, but it struggles to remember and enforce rules across a shared environment. That’s where our human-built engine comes in.
We write our episodes by hand, but when we open our toolkit, creators will have the freedom to decide how they build theirs. Whether they write everything themselves or supplement with AI, our engine keeps the world logic stable and consistent.
WHAT WILL YOUR FIRST EPISODE BE ABOUT?
We’re launching with a slasher-themed mystery. There are secrets, hidden roles, and possibly… a killer. It’s replayable, and the story unfolds differently each time.
CAN I MAKE MY OWN EPISODE?
Not yet—but creator tools are coming. Once we make them available, you’ll be able to build your own story, write your own characters, and control how the world reacts.
